N.Z. under 18 basketball
A team of Christchurch schoolgirls will compete in the national under 18 basketball championship qualifying tournament at the Caledonian Stadium, Dunedin, on May 16. 17, and 18. The team is: P. Hinkley captain), K. Adamson, S. South, A. Taylor, M. O’Connell, M. Clark, S. Cox (all Mairehau ‘A’); C. Winter and D. Douglas (Rangiora), B. McLeod (Orients). The selector-coach (Mr K. Williams) is confident about his young team’s chances. The youngest player is aged 14. Ail are A grade players except B. McLeod and S. Cox, from the B grade. The side’s first match is against South Otago, and its main game is on the Saturday against Nelson. The first three qualifying teams at the tournament will go into the finals of the New Zealand under 18 championship in Auckland in the first week of September.
