ATTACKS ON KURDS

Conflicting reports

(N.Z Press Assn—Copyright) BAGDAD, May 13. The Iraqi Head of State (Genera) Bakr) said today that Government troops were inflicting heavy losses on the rebel Kurdish forces in north-eastern Iraq. “In the last few days, the forces of General Barzani’s clique have been swept out of large areas of Kurdistan,” President Bakr said. “Security has been re-established there, and thousands of citizens have returned to their properties.” Earlier today, the clandestine Voice of Kurdistan radio service had claimed that Kurdish revolutionary forces had killed more than 100 Iraqi soldiers on Friday in the heaviest fighting of the two-month-old rebellion.
