Butter price plea in Aust.

(N.Z. Press Assn—Copyright) SYDNEY, May 13.

Australian dairy farmers want quarterly adjustments to the price of butter. The Australian Dairy Industry Council has already given notice that it will seek an increase of 25 cents per lb before the Prices Justification Tribunal. At the annual conference of the Victorian Farmers’ Union last week, Mr R. G. Murdock, chairman of the dairy section, said that quarterly price adjustments were necessary because of growing costs.

It would be futile to ask for a rise of less than 5 cents per lb. each quarter, he said. Farmers would get only 3 cents of the rise. The remainder would go to manufacturers and distributors.
