Car rallies for 1975

Two motor rallies would be held in New Zealand next year, Mr K. M. Thompson, a member of the executive of the Motor Sport Association, said at the annual meeting in Christchurch at the week-end. Mr Thompson said that Heatway Industries, Ltd, would sponsor a rally, probably a qualifying round in the world rally championship or the new South Pacific championship Philip Morris (N.Z.) Ltd would sponsor the nations: Marlboro Rally.

The president of the Association (Mr R. W. Frost) said that the executive’s banning of motor sport this year because of the fuel situation had shown a responsible attitude. Motor sport would have a better public image, and better bargaining power in the future, he said.

More than 100 people, including (50 delegates from car clubs throughout New Zealand, attended the meeting.
