Bottle smashes window

Two radio cassette recorders worth $4OO were stolen in a smash-and-grab raid on Bob Brown’s Hi Fi Sound, Ltd, 194 High Street, about 5 a.m. yesterday.

A full bottle of beer was used to break the front window and a display case just behind the window. The burglars snatched the two largest machines from the case and ran away. A police car was soon at the scene, and the manager of the shop, Mr R. Brown, was called to clean up what he described as “a hell of a mess.”

“The window was a big one — about $2OO worth,” he said. “Pieces of glass from it and the cabinet were lying all over the shop and the footpath outside.”

“The two recorders taken were near the window and were obviously taken pretty quickly. The equipment sitting next to them, which was left behind, was worth about $lOOO. “It almost looks as though the burglars wanted only those two particular machines.”
