Help for families
The Kaiapoi Borough Council has opened an appeal fund to help three families which lost their possessions in a fire at 115 Raven Street, Kaiapoi, on Saturday. Contributions are being accepted at the council office.
The Mayor (Mr B. O. Williams) said yesterday that accommodation was still being sought, and he would be interested to hear of any flat or house available for letting. The Kaiapoi Red Cross sub-centre secretary (Mrs R. Stewart) has received clothing and household utensils for the families, and will accept other goods at her home, next to the Hilton Garage. Two beds have been offered. Any clothing not suitable will be given to the Christchurch centre.
Basketball.—The All Japan women’s basketball team has won all its four good-will matches against the All Australia women’s side. It beat the Australians, 47-45. in the final match in Sapporo
