‘PROGRESS’ IN JAPAN
(By DEREK ROUND) (N Z P A. Staff Correspondent) TOKYO.
The Minister of Finance (Mr Rowling) won agreement from the Japanese Agriculture Minister (Mr Tadao Kuraishi) that there should be more frequent meetings of officials on access for New Zealand primart' produce to the Japanese market. “We have made some progress,” Mr Rowling said. But Mr Rowling, like other New Zealand Ministers, apparently made little headway with his bid for “sustained access” to Japan. Mr Kuraishi and officials with him listened politely to Mr Rowling put the New Zealand case, and then the Japanese Minister spoke about the emphasis Japan is putting on self-sufficiency in agriculture.
