ANNOUNCEMENT ON POWER
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 29. The Minister of Electricity (Mr McGuigan) would make a statement tomorrow on the electricity situation, said the Deputy Prime Minister (Mr Watt) this evening. Mr Watt said lake storage had recovered considerably, but cooler temperatures caused
greater power consumption.
On the petroleum situation, Mr Watt said the country appeared to be in a better position than was expected some months ago but conservation measures could not be relaxed. The situation was likely to fluctuate. The Government was continuing an examination of ways of using more coal for energy production.
