Miller wins fifth title

Miller (United States) won his fifth professional golf tournament of the year when a four-foot par-saving putt on the seventy-second hole earned him victory in the Tournament of Champions at Carlsbad. Miller had a final round of 69 and won by a stroke from two other Americans, B. Allin and J. Mahaffey. Miller had a 72-hole total : of 280 (eight under par) on j the sunny, wind-swept La [Costa Country Club course.! Allin, the leader for the first [two rounds, had a closing 71,j and Mahaffey, a runner-up for the third time this year, shot; a 70.
