Mona Vale proposal
The Christchurch Civic [Trust is opposed to a proi posal by the Christchurch City Council to sell part of the Mona Vale property. The council wanted to subdivide two or three sections from the Mona Vale property, said the chairman of the trust (Mr I. G. B. Wilson) last evening. Members of the public who had subscribed to the appeal for funds to buy Mona Vale would be let down if part was sold, said Mr Wilson. The trust will ask the council if Mona Vale is a public reserve, and if not will press for it. to be declared a reserve.
Mr J. Oakley said that he was disappointed that part of the land might be sold to help pay for the development of Mona Vale. About $40,000 had already been spent on developing the property. He said that he was not happy with the development of the property as a facility for hire for weddings and other functions. Although it could be used for tljat purpose. it should be preserved as a relic of the late Victorian age.
“Mona Vale is going to be rather an ordinary place the way it is going,” said Mt Oakley.
