Fewer born, more die
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. New Zealand’s natural increase in population last year (excluding migration gain) totalled 35,413, the lowest since 1954, said the Government Statistician (Mr E. A. i Harris). [ There were fewer births in '1973 than in any year since : 1965, and the number of deaths continued their norma! upward trend. Net rates of increase per 1000 of mean population m the latest three years have been 14.01 in 1971, 13.17 in 1972, and 11.89 in 1973. Live births registered in 1973 numbered 60,727, a drop of 2488 on the 1972 total. Deaths registered numbered 25,314, an increase of 513 on 1972.
