Water meters

Sir, — I would like to draw attention to a grave injustice associated with the payment for excess household water. Some houses in Christchurch have meters in the main water supply while others, possibly next door have none. The reason goes back many years and is irrelevant. It seems objectionable that we are not all treated equally, either meters for all or none. For years I have refused to pay the account and if others do the same the council may in time change to a more equitable system. — Yours, etc., D. J. LATTIMORE.

April 6, 1974. [The Town Clerk (Mr J. H. Gray) replies: “Universal [metering has been adopted by the council. At present about 98 per cent of domestic consumers are metered, and this should reach 100 per cent by the end of this financial year.”]
