Women prisoners escape

PEWEE VALLEY (Kentucky), April 28.
Four women prisoners overpowered two male guards and a matron yesterday to escape from a solitary confinement section of the Kentucky Correctional Institute for Women.
An associate warden, Mary Richie, said that Essie Mae Willock, aged 19, one of ;the inmates, started a fire in 'her cell and then used her leg I irons to subdue a male guard !while he was trying to put 'out the blaze. j Another fire was started In Ithe cell of Brenda Kaye Spencer. aged 22. Tire two women used a disabling gas, Mace, to disable the guards and took their keys to release two other pri-j soners. Then the four fled in their nightclothes after they apparently ripped loose wires connecting the prison’s electric 1 fence to a power source, [climbing the fence to get [away. : The other two inmates
were identified as Sharon Sue Morton, aged 18, and Lucille Shanks, aged 24.
