Situation at 8 p.m. A depression east of East Cape continues to move away. An anticyclone south of New Zealand is moving east. The south-east airstream covering’ the North Island and the north of the South Island is weakening slowly.

KAIKOURA COAST. NORTH AND CENTRAL CANTERBURY.—Fresh southwesterlies along the coast north of Banks Peninsula, with some showers, but winds decreasing and showers clearing south of Kaikoura: elsewhere moderate winds from the south or east, with considerable fine periods; generally still
cold. MARLBOROUGH SOUNDS.—Southerly gales at first about Cook Strait; winds often strong elsewhere, but moderating slowly; mainly fine in sheltered parts, othenvise rather cloudy with occasional rain easing slowly; cold. CENTRAL MARLBOROUGH.—Fresh winds from south or east decreasing slowly; tine and cool. NELSON, BULLER, WESTLAND, SOUTH CANTERBURY. — Light or moderate easterly winds; some low cloud and drizzle about the east coast this morning; otherwise fine, with cool to moderate temperatures.
