‘AMAZING 9 REMARK
A remark by the Minister of Agriculture (Mr Moyle) that there was no shortage of one farming requisite — sackcloth and ashes — was “amazing and disappointing,” the chairman of Ashburton Federated Farmers (Mr J. G. Humm) said at an executive meeting. This and similar remarks were at complete variance with the statement made by the Minister on Friday in his capacity as chairman of the Agricultural Production Council, Mr Humm said. Mr Humm said that he believed farmers had been temperate in statements made in the last few weeks. They had indicated dangers, not only for the farming community but for the community as a whole. “One wonders if the audience to which the Minister speaks has a bearing on what he says," Mr Humm said.
