Comparative cost rises

New Zealand had the fifth highest rise in the cost of living from 1965 to 1973 among a list of 17 nations selected by the United States Department of Agriculture to illustrate the comparatively low rise in the cost of American consumer goods. West Germany had the lowest rise, 36.4 points. Other increases were: Canada. 37.1 points; the United States, 40.5; Italy, 40.6; Belgium and Luxemburg, 43.1; Australia, 46.9; France, 49.9; Mexico, 52.1; Britain, 60.7; Japan, 66.8; Denmark, 68.9; the Netherlands, 69.5; New Zealand, 70.1; the Irish Republic. 75; Spain. 77.2; Jugoslavia. 200; Argentina. 1124.
Radios stolen.— Three twoway radios, worth a total of $B7O, were stolen from trucks parked in the Christchurch [City Council yard in Worcester Street between Wednesday and yesterday.
