Voyage to Campbell Is.

<N Z Press Association)

DUNEDIN, April 28.

The Dunedin-based research vessel Acheron will begin a voyage to Campbell Island today if the weather improves. The Acheron will take a technician to the island weather station, and four other technicians will carry out maintenance on scientific equipment there while the Acheron stands by.

A sixth passenger will be a member of the Ministry of Transport staff in Wellington, who is involved in the administration of the weather station.

The skipper-owner of the Acheron (Mr A. J. Black) said: "We will be at Campbell Island only for about 36 hours. But this will depend on the weather." The Acheron will take mail and stores to the station, where staff work a year’s tour of duty. After the Campbell Island voyage the Acheron will return to Bluff to begin a 12-dav research programme in Foveaux Strait for the Ministry of Agriculture and I Fisheries. ■
