Cr Hay’s campaign

Cr H. G. Hay, the Citizens’ Association Mayoral candidate, spent all Saturday making house-to-house calls in the Rocking Horse Road area and proposes spending every Saturday during the six months leading up to the local body elections on October 12 in his meet-the-people campaign.

“I am sure this will provide a most useful source of information on the issues which are really concerning our citizens at grass-roots level,” he said. “Inevitably I will not be able to visit more than a small percentage of the total number of houses in Christchurch, but I am confident that this effort will be highly rewarding and worth while if Saturday’s experience is any guide.” Cr Hay said he was extremely well received wher-

ever he visited, and everybody was anxious to stress the very real and obvious road and drainage needs of the area. “There is obviously an ur-

gent need for Rocking Horse Road to be greatly upgraded, and I am very sympathetic to the plight of many young mothers in their problem of transporting young children to school,” Cr Hay said. He added that it was important that he meet as many people as possible who were involved in the administration and operation of the city’s major institutions, particularly those which required a considerable amount of ratepayers’ money.
