Interest in Australia

Mr L. G. McKay, chairman of the New Zealand Water Polo Board, has returned from a trip to Australia with good news for his sport.

He said that the Australians are “very interested” in the proposed Pacific Bowl Games at the end of January. “I was there principally to speak to water polo people, but there was a great deal of interest in swimming circles as well,” he said. The Australian water polo coach was thrilled with the timing of the event and with a suggestion that they could double as an elimination match for the World Games, Mr McKay said. The other good news he brought back was that the annual interchange between New Zealand and New South Wales schoolboy teams might be enlarged to include Victorians. The New Zealand team will meet the Victorians at the start of their tour, before the matches against the New South Wales combined high schools’ side.

Mr McKay said it seemed likely that Australia would stage the inaugural world schoolboy water polo tournament late next year.
