Improvements to waste .treatment at the Christchurch Gas Company’s Moorhouse Avenue plant have not been Icompleted, the Christchurch Drainage Board learnt on Thursday evening. Just a month ago the board; .was told that the phenolic! • wastes treatment plant at the i gas works would be in use by I the end of March, as was required by the board, but it is 'now expected that the plant (will be ready by mid-May; The consulting engineers for ,the waste treatment have [written to the board, saying that a contracor who was to! ’have worked on the existing! catchpit had not yet started’ work, although he had been ! engaged on the understanding that the job would have been finished no later than February 28. The board expressed its grave concern at the delay, ibut took no other action. “It’s the old continuing story,” said Cr W. Massey. j “I’m disturbed at the de-’ lay,” said Mr G. W. Lowrie. i "As far as I’m concerned the i assurances of the Gas Company have been just so much! gas,” he said.
