BAN ON KIWI

Orchard in dispute : i'A'.Z.P.A. Staff Correspond ant) SYDNEY. \ The former New Zea- [ land Rugby league prop forward, R. I. Orchard, in dispute with his Brisbane ! club, Redcliffe, is consider- ] ing moving to Sydney. Sydney clubs yesterday inquired about the prospects of Redcliffe releasing the New Zealander from his contract, which expires at the end of next season. Orchard is the in-form prop in the Brisbane competition this season and helped Redcliffe into the grand final of the Brisbane premiership last season. But Orchard has been barred for three months from the Redcliffe clubhouse and has told the club he will not. play for it until the ban is ended.

The ban followed an incident at the clubhouse last Sunday night involving Orchard and club officials. Orchard was at the club with members of the New Zealand darts team, which included some of his former teammates from the Ellerslie club, in Auckland.

“I have a hamstring injury which I have ignored in recent weeks,” Orchard said.

“Because of it, I could make myself unavailable for the next three months. It could be right about July 27 —when the ban ends.”
