Big theft of rings
(N Z Press Assoctation) DUNEDIN, April 19. Thieves escaped with diamond rings worth between §25,000 and 330,000 in a smash and grab raid on Keith Weatherail Jewellers and Watchmakers, Ltd, George Street, Dunedin early this morning. Nearly 200 expensive diai mond rings were stolen, and; the raid was the second of its kind in the sai.e street! in just over a week.
I Thieves broke into another I jewellers shop last week, : taking watches valued at be- ■ tween $450 and $5OO. I Mr N. B. Cockroft, the' J manager of Weatherall’s, ■confirmed that almost 200! diamond rings ranging ini i value from $BO to $4OO, iwere taken in the raid,: which occurred just before 4 a.m. Police were also looking [for a large quantity of ! antique jewellery valued at $lOOO which was stolen ■ from a safe in the Moran 'Building in the Octagon.
