China’s oil production

(N.Z.P A Reuter—Copyright ' PEKING. Oil production at China's largest oilfield, at Taching, reached record levels in the first three months of this year, the official “People's Daily’’ reports. Crude oil output in the first quarter of 1974 was 27 per cent higher than in the comparable period of 1973, while the output of refined products rose by 16 per cent. As is often the case in China, no precise figures ar» given. Taching, which has been singled out as a model for China’s industry, because of its political rectitude and economic self-reliance, is somewhere in the north-eastern province of Heilungkiang. However, its exact position is secret, presumably for security reasons.

China’s total oil output has not been disclosed, but the Prime Minister (Chou En-lai) is reported to have told a visiting Japanese delegation recently that last year’s production amounted to about 56 million tons.

Trusts.— The annual conference of the. Licensing Trusts Association next year will be held in Christchurch from March 20 to 23. The joint hosts will be the Hornby, Hawarden and Cheviot trusts. —(P.A.)
