Poppy sales down
Poppy Dav yesterday had produced $3554 for the Christchurch Returned Services’ Association when counting ended last evening. At the comparable time a year ago $3BOO had been contributed to the R.S.A.’s annual street appeal. The secretary-manager of the association (Mr F. Barron) said that the response in the city had been good: but there had been a shortage of collectors in Riccarton, St Albans, Sydenham and Beckenham, suburbs which had been well covered in the past. Many of the collectors in the central city area had said that there were some generous contributions and that a pleasing number of young persons had bought poppies. It would be a week or more before the final figure for the association’s district was known. Mr Barron said.
