Soap prices to rise
fX.Z. Pres* 4ssoctat?on> WELLINGTON, April 19. All soap. soap powders, and detergents made by Unilever will cost more from Monday. The managing director of the detergents division of Unilever New Zealand. Ltd (Mr H. J. Barr), said tonight that there would be an average price rise of 6 per cent over the range of soap products.
The increases were brought about because of the rapidly increasing cost of imported tallow and pnces for packaging materials, said Mr Barr •The greatest cost is imported inflation.” It is understood that the price rises will range from 2c to 10c on individual items. Both Unilever and ColgatePalmolive announced increases in the price of some of their soap powders and liquid detergents.
