MANSONS POINT Minister vetoes land scheme

. Mansons Point, between Governor’s Bay and Teddington, must be zoned for recreational use, says the Minister of Works and Development (Mr Watt) in a directive received by the Mount Herbert County Council.

The point, which comprises 179 acres, was bought by Mr G. O’Farrell from the Witte family in 1972 in the course of his land acquisitions at Governor’s ; Bay and Allandale. He announced plans to use the land, including the point J for housing development. The point is zoned rural.: and retains this zoning in the' council’s reviewed planning scheme, but. said the county* chairman (Mr E. R. Radcliffe); yesterday, the council now* had no option but to comply J with the Minister’s require-' ment. Amendment “It takes away any difference of opinion,” said Mr Radcliffe. “We will amend our reviewed scheme zoning accordingly.” He was referring to the council’s (and residents’) opposition to various schemes of sub-1 division for the point put up by Mr O’Farrell. , district by the Environmental Planning Group is this comment: —

"Manson’s Point has been talked of as a possible location for a major residential development. It is considered that over-all, the area is highly unsuited for residential development.” The report refers to problems created by slopes and [soil stability as restraints to the creation of housing seditions. * Mr O’Farrell has the right [of appeal against the Minisiterial requirement.
