Water-saver suggested

A million gallons of water a day was flushed to waste in water-closets in the county, said Cr W. T. Rice, at a meeting of the Waimairi County Council on Wednesday evening. "Water is a resource that we need to conserve and use efficiently,” he said. Total use of water in the county was about 2000 m gallons a year, and this service cost the rate-’ payers $350,000. A saving in water use could effect big savings also for the Christchurch Drainage Board. Cr Rice said that a Swedish appliance delivered about a pint and three-quarters for flush,- compared with up to three gallons with the normal system. He did not know if waterclosets could be converted, but if they could, the cost savings would be considerable. He asked that the works committee consider his suggestion.
