Plan well received

The Prime Minister (Mr Kirk) said last evening that he approved of Mr R. S. Scott’s proposal for an annual New Zealand international games, according to the Press Association.

"1 am very impressed by the suggestion. I have discussed it with Mr May, in his capacity as Acting Minister of Recreation and Sport, and he is also enthusiastic.”

Mr Kirk said the New Zealand Council for Sport and Recreation would consider the plan In detail, and make recommendations.

In Christchurch, the Mayor (Mr N. G. Pickering) said he was fully in favour —so long as the scheme did not cost ratepayers any money.

He said he wanted the games to be self-support-ing; if they were not, they should have a Government subsidy.
