Lamphouse sold
The Lamphouse Building, in Lichfield Street near the corner of High Street, has jbeen bought by Lichfield (N.Z.), Ltd, which has an adjoining ' plant in Tuam Street. For the last 18 months, the company has leased some of the first floor of the Lamphouse Building, which is linked by a walk-way to the first floor of their own building. This floor will be used for knitwear and jacket manufacture. The top floor will be used for pyjama manufacture, knitwear sorting, button making, and a dyeing plant. The basement will be used for pattern grading, research and sampling, and an engineering and machinery department.
With the Lyttelton and Kaiapoi plants, the company now has 118,000 sq ft of production spaoe. The Lamphouse Building was once owned by the Wellington Woollen Co., at which time it was known as the Petone Building.
