TROTTING Edis Nova firms in favour for Forbury

Edis Nova has firmed in favour for the Dunedin Free-for-all at Forbury Park this evening after her splendid run for eighth against the pacers in the L. L. Richards Memorial Handicap last Saturday at Methven.

Her run was in marked contrast to her showing at the Addington trials two days earlier, when she broke, became unbalanced, and was far from impressive.

At Methven, she began splendidly and was soon about four places back on the rails. Palestine set a solid pace, with Edis Nova hopelessly pocketed until the finish, where she was only four lengths from the speedy winner.

Edis Nova has not raced since November 17, having had a good spell after a sharp decline in her fine form early in the spring. Her run at Methven suggested that she should have a most profitable autumn, and it will be surprising if she fails to make a bold bid this evening. Probable favourite The consistent Papatoetoe gelding, Easton Light, which has often proved more than a match for his southern rivals on several visits to Addington, will probably be a firm favourite after consistent efforts in his home province. He did well to finish second to Good Admiral at Alexandra Park on March 16 after being left in the open for almost the whole of the race.

Bachelor Tom, runner-up to Lessaday under free-for-all conditions at Hutt Park on February 26 at his latest start, will be another popular fancy, and there will no doubt be solid support for the Lessaday-Great Applause bracket, Philemon, Le Char, and Cee Ar.

Gay Rose, Adios Adieu and Manawaru form a likely trio in the first leg, the Raceway Handicap, which should provide a valuable pointer to prospects in the first set of heats for the $12,000 Easter Cup to be run on Saturday at Addington Raceway.

Scottish Charm and Bomber Bill are others capable of taking a prominent part in the finish.
