RARE SNAKE FOUND
(N.Z. Press Association) NELSON, March 25. A dead snake of a venomous variety seldom found in the Nelson area was found washed ashore at Pakawau, Golden Bay, On Saturday. The snake, 2ft 6in long, was found by two visitors to the district who handed it to a local resident, Mrs D. Beckitt-Smith.
According to a book on New Zealand’s native animals, the snake was of the highly-venomous yellow-bel-lied variety, said Mrs Beck-itt-Smith today.
It has been found in New Zealand only on rare occasions, and then in the far north.
