Oil report sought
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Mar. 25. The Government has asked the Monetary • and Economic Council to report on the economic aspects of the oil situation. The Minister of Finance (Mr Rowling) said today that it was well recognised that the rise in the price of oil had presented new and challenging economic problems. “The Government considers that the widest possible understanding of the questions raised by the new situation is essential,” he said. “Accordingly I have written to the chairman of the Monetary and Economic Council requesting that the council’s forthcoming report should include a consideration of all the m’jor issues involved.”
Mr Rowling said that he had asked for the report by the end of April so that any recommendations could be taken into account in the Budget.
