SRI LANKA BOOST
I.C.C. post suggested (NZ P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) LAHORE. Pakistan will propose that Sri Lanka be granted membership of the International Cricket Conference at the next I.C.C. meeting, in July. It will ask Australia to back the proposal. Pakistan intends to propose Sri Lanka as a full regular member in view of its “extraordinary performance” on the current tour of Pakistan. The news was greeted with delight by the Sri Lanka cricketers at the Gadaffi Stadium, Lahore, on the third day of their unofficial first test against the Pakistanis — which should end in a draw. I.C.C. recognition of Sri Lanka has long been a cherished objective in the island, and it was felt that a Pakistani proposal, supported by Australia, would stand an excellent chance. The test ended with Pakistan seven for 420 in its second innings at stumps on the fourth and final day. Sri Lanka was all out for 369 in its first innings, after Pakistan’s first innings of nine for 302 declared.
