‘Several leads' to Beard case
The Christchurch C. 1.8. has followed several leads on the Jennifer. Mary Beard case during the last year.
Detective Superintendent B. Wilkinson said yesterday that information from a number of inquiries had been [sent to the officer in charge ■ of the case, Detective Inspector E. T. Mitten. “The case is definitely not closed. We have been working at it on and off for several years,” he said. “All the information on a line of investigation is sent to Mr Mitten, who decides whether the investigation should continue.” Mr Wilkinson said that Christchurch detectives were
busy at' the moment on an inquiry in connection with the Beard case.
“The latest telephone call to . the Wellington C. 1.8. has attracted a lot of publicity, and I have many doubts that it will be helpful to the police,” he said.
