His owner, Mr B. Hedley, who had refused offers of up to ! $500,000 for Grand Cidium. said • last gvening that he had requested the post mortem. Grand Cidium was at the Werribbee veterinary clinic, where i an operation was carried out on ■ his hind fetlock joint. Eight days ago Grand Cidium developed a virus, and Dr P. i Sykes flew from Sydney to treat 'lthe colt. , Grand Cidium had apparently i recovered, and Mr Hedley said : that he had been told that he would be able to take the colt ’ to his property at Flinders early J this week. ! “But just as 1 was leaving for the faces at Flemington on Saturday I got a ring from VVerribee ,| to say that Grand Cidium had died.” he said. ' I Grand Cidium was by the New 1 : Zealand-based sire. Oncidium, ; and had tremendous potential [value as a stallion. Mr Hedley said that Grand [Cidium was insured for a “reailsonable sum,” but not for anyi thing like his real value.
