lor the second tear in succession, the Christchurch City Council was not represented at the annual meeting of the Christchurch Metropolitan Local Authorities Grants Committee. lhe committc* comprises representatives trom all those local bodies in the metropolitan area which are approached for financial support by welfare, artistic and recreat i o n a I organisations serving the area. Il was set up Io jointly consider the applications for money and to recommend the total grant which should be made, the constituent councils supplying the money on the basis of rati income. Under this basis, lhe City Council meeis the largest proportion of the figure. After the council declined to send a representaiive last year, the committee wrote to the council expressing its regret at th* council's attitude. Although the absence of a City Council representative this year again drew comment Irom both committee members and applicants for grants, no decision was taken to approach the council again.
