Thefts of gold
Nine Russians have been sentenced to prison terms of up to 15 years after an 18day trial which brought to light a system of regular gold thefts from State mines. The trade union newspaper, “Trud,” says that a gang of four gold thieves, who operated in the Magadan goldextracting works in the Soviet Far East, have been given terms ranging from nine to 15 years. Another five defendants. who bought the stolen gold from the gang, received sentences varying from six to 10 rears.—Moscow, February
