Reception for hockey
By having the first men’s international hockey tournament to be held in the South Pacific, Christchurch achieved another first, said the Mayor (Mr N. G. Pickering) at a Mayoral reception held yesterday for captains, team managers and officials of the competing hockey teams. He said that Christchurch was particularly pleased to. stage another international event so soon after the Commonwealth Games; he felt! that good crowds would be attracted — not only hockey, enthusiasts, but also people! interested in Queen Elizabeth II Park. Mr R. Frank, the president of the Federation for International Hockey, said it was the second time he had visi ited Christchurch and he felt [certain that the internatioral [hockey would be a big and [well deserved success. The Mayor then presented [him with a booklet on Christchurch and a lapel badge depicting the First Four Ships. Officials and team members also received them.
