iA'.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, February 7. A numbering system which would automatically convey unique personal information about the holder of a I specific number had never been considered i for the New Zealand superannuation scheme, said the Minister of Finance (Mr Rowling) today.

In a statement Mr Rowling -said that reports that a unique numbering system -would be used were completely without foundation. While such a system might be convenient, he said, it was completely unacceptable to the Government. Last July the Cabinet had approved the use of a file reference numbering system for the New Zealand Superannuation Corporation, which would administer the superannuation scheme, and the Accident Compensation Commission. Adequate provision was being made for secrecy. The use of a file reference system was common to most organisations dealing with targe groups either manually :

or by computer, said Mr Rowling. He cited as examples the systems used for public service and teachers’ pay, the Government superannuation fund for public servants, the Public Service Investment So-' ciety and, for identifying individual accounts, tradings savings banks, including the Post Office Savings Bank.
