Jealous Lover to attempt treble
Jealous Lover will try on Saturday for his third win in as many starts at the Canterbury Jockey Club's summer meeting.
He was backed as if unbeatable for his second win at the meeting yesterday, and carried the big weight of 61kg to victory by four lengths in the Johnnie Walker Handicap. The nuggety Rich Gift colt from Wanganui gave his rider, W. D. Skelton, only a moment’s concern. “I tried to ride him in behind early, but he wasn’t having any,” Skelton said. ‘■He threw his head about, and there was nothing for it but to let him go ahead and lead. The rest was easy.” Skelton added: “He was a bet-
- ter horse today than on the : first day of the meeting.” 1 Jealous Lover has now won / four races, all of them at Ric- * carton. He won twice in November. and his third win came t last Friday in the Canterbury Challenge Stakes. 51 While Jealous Lover placed 1 no strain on the judge's eye . yesterday, the race produced a tight finish for the minor placings. ■ Galapau was a clear second ; in a vain chase after Jealous ■ Lover until fairly close to home, but was pegged back by both • Argos and No Decision.
