Drivers to protest
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. More than 1500 drivers will hold a stop-work meeting in the Auckland Town Hall on February 18 to protest against the recent increase in the price of petrol and oil. The secretary of the Northern Drivers’ Union (Mr G. H. Anderson) said that the drivers were deeply concerned about three aspects of the price rise: the way in which it was approved without the oil companies having to demonstrate in public the justice of their case; the tremendous impact on the cost of living; and the reduction in work available for drivers.
