Man pulled from car In lake
(.New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. February 6. An Auckland man owes his life to a young man who saved him from possible drowning on the North Shore, Auckland, early today.
Mr Martin, aged about 30, i I of Waterview, was in al “quite satisfactory” condition! I in Auckland Hospital today. Mr M. Horua and Mr G. Tahua, both of Ponsonby,| were returning to the city; along Esmonde Road to the; 1 Harbour Bridge after an early morning swim. As they approached an intersection a car which was travelling toward them suddenly veered, off the road into the small! lake which bounds the two; roads. I The car was later photo-, graphed with only parts of; the roof and two tyres showing above the water. “We couldn’t believe our; eyes,” said Mr Horua. “We stopped the car. George went; to get help, and I scrambled! down the bank into the ; water up to my neck.” The tide was running in-; ward. He failed to get into the near side of the car, and then swam to the other side, where he found Mr Martin ‘ stuck in the window. “1 ripped his shirt off and pulled him out,” Mr Horua said. “I asked him if there was anybody else in the car.”; He helped Mr Martin to the I
