PACIFIC TRUST Compensation award
A.Z. Press Association) Washington, Feb. 5. President Nixon's Budget for 1975 provides for the payment of SUSSm, to be matched by an equal amount from Japan, for damages suffered by Micronesian inhabitants of the Pacific Trust Territory as the result of the Second World War. Congress has already authorised a total of SUS2Om for the settlement of the claims of islanders who suffered damages between the time when the islands were secured by American forces, in 1944-45 and July 1. 1951. This covered the period of the United States’ nuclear testing in the Pacific. The trust territory, which has a population of 110,000, is made up of 2141 islands scattered over 3 million square miles of the Pacific.
