Sir, —There is no question ' we have to reduce power I consumption. However, i
many homes, and even! many firms, use only enough near to their basic electricity charge. How can these people be asked to save, if they have to pay in any case? What has the Minister to say about this.—Yours, etc., O.C. January 22, 1974. [The Minister of Electricity (Mr McGuigan) replies: “From my knowledge of retail electricity tariff schedules, the minimum monthly charge is very low. This would apply only in cases where no power had been used, such as when a property was vacant. In general terms, supply authorities have to meet standing charges which accrue regardless of the amount of power isold. The basic charge is (needed to cover them.”]
