Symbol as bow crest
1 X.Z Press Association) WELLINGTON. Feb. 5. The Commonwealth Games symbol would not be used on the funnels of New Zealand Shipping Corporation ships, the chairman of the corporation (Sir John Ormond) said today. Sir John Ormond said it had never been intended to use the symbol in that way. The Commonwealth Games organisers had given permission to use the symbol as a bow crest, a metal plaque high on the ship's bow. This was the best place to put the symbol. Sir John Ormond said. He could not understand why the Games organisers had announced last week that the symbol would be used on the funnel; the corporation had not J asked to use it that way.
