The increase in the price of petrol and diesel fuel could cost the Paparua County Council $lO,OOO in a full year, and $3OOO for the rest of this financial year, to March 31, the County Clerk (Mr A. Kelly) told a meeting of the council: on Monday evening. “The cost of heating the council’s swimming pools at. Sockbum and Halswell will rise substantially, as the cost of diesel heating fuel has risen 62 per cent.” he said. The finance committee reported that its members had considered the possibility of using alternative heating methods for the pools, and perhaps for the council offices and the Sockburn vehicle testing station.
