Change of editorship

(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) CAIRO, Feb. 3. The controversial Egyptian journalist, Ali Amin, will be the new editor of the Cairo newspaper, “Al-Ahram,” replacing Mohammed Hassanein Heykal, the country’s most influential commentator. Mr Amin will edit “AlAhram” after returning from eight years in self-imposed exile, mostly in London and Beirut: he left Cairo when his twin brother, Mustafa, was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1965 for spying for the United States. Mr Amin, formerly the newspaper’s roving correspondent in Europe, returned to Egypt last week after President Sadat had pardoned his brother. Mr Heykal has been appointed Presidential adviser, ending last night nearly 17 years as editor of “AlAhram,” which he developed into the best-known newspaper in the Arab world. His widely-read weekly columns have recently taken an individualistic line on the political role of the United States.
