WOMEN’S CRICKET Hagley in good position
Western and Hagley gained first innings points In the senior women’s cricket competition on Saturday, and Cashmere won the other game by default against Mai Moa. Hagley was in a strong position against St Albans I. which has only two second innings wickets standing, and Is 67 runs ahead of Hagley. P. Hoban (40 not out) and P. Carrick (40) batted safely in Hagley’s first innings of 166 and S. Masters bowled consistently to lake six Hagley w’lckets. St Albans II declared and left Western to make 86 tn 38 minutes for the outright win. but the task was beyond Western, which had reached 50 for the loss of one wicket at stumps. Mrs S. Cowles was in fine batting form with scores of 60 and 40 not out. Hagley 166 <P. Hoban 40 not 1 out, P. Carrick 40. C. Foote 21, 1.. Burner 18; S. Master 6/61) ! beat St Albans I. 130 and 103/8 j <J. Lawn 31 not out, L. Shank-1 land 24; P. Carrick 3/10. H. 1 Kirk 2/16. L. Burney 2/17) on the first innings. Western 123/8 (S. Cowles 60. : K. Hadlee 42: J. Lord 3/20, A. McKenna 3/9> and 50/1 (Cowles 40 not out) beat St Albans 11, 119 and 89/4 (J. Lord 23, A. McKenna 15. D. Jelley 18 not out. S. Wilson 27 not out; K. Hadlee 2/35) on the first innings.'
