Winning the “Miss Canterbury” title has brought several changes to Carolyn Skilling’s way of life, not the least of which is a possible move to Christchurch. Her home is in Tinwald but her committments as “Miss Canterbury” will require her to spend most of her time in Christchurch. Miss Skilling, who is 21, and a hotel receptionist in Ashburton, won the crown from 14 other contestants at the Christchurch Town Hall on Sunday evening. She had previously won the “Queen of the Carnival” contest in Timaru which qualified her for entry in the
“Miss Canterbury 7” contest. “I wasn’t sure after I won the carnival queen title whether I wanted to enter the “Miss Canterbury” contest,” she said. “It took me two days to make up my mind.” Miss Skilling is a browneyed blonde and is sft 4in tall, with measurements of 34-24-34. Her hobbies include elocution, which she learnt for eight years and taught for four, swimming, boating and dress-making. The prizes that she received for winning “Miss Canterbury” contest include $4OO in cash, a $5OO wardrobe, a $4O wrist watch,
$4O worth of cosmetics, and i other smaller prizes. Miss : Skilling will represent Canterbury in the “Miss New ■ Zealand” contest. I
