Big Red the ' Horse of the Year '

Big Red. ridden by A. D. Yorke, of Bulls, became Horse of the Year. 1974. when he produced some outstanding jumping to beat last year’s winner. Rifleman, rid den bv J. Cottle, of Welling ton. at the New Zealand Horse of the Year Show at Rangiora yesterday. Watched by Princess Anne. Captain Phillips, and an en thusiastic record crowd. New Zealand’s leading show jumpers were in good form over a testing and well-built course. Big Red and Rifleman had the only two clear rounds in the Wills N.Z. Show Jumping Championship. Miss J. Dunn, of Southland, riding Bush Creek, was unluckv to pick up a quarter time fault. Big Red had a clear round in 35.1 sec. and Rifleman stayed clear until the big double, where he received four faults. The Pony of the Year con-, test al«o produced an exciting contest.
